Ale to the Chief: Honey Porter
If you follow my blog or SheppyBrew's Facebook page, you may have caught that the White House emailed me two home-brew recipes (see White House #HomeBrew Recipes on my blog).
Both recipes were extract batches, and to this point I have not seen all-grain versions posted. They may be out there, I just have not seen them. I decided to convert the recipes to all-grain.
There is some important missing information on the recipes (OG and IBUs), but I went ahead and plugged the recipe in, making a few assumptions based on what I would have done. I also designed for 5.5 gallons into the fermentor and a 90 minute boil, as is my customary process. The resulting all-grain recipe for the White House Honey Porter is listed below.
I actually don't know if I'll make this recipe. I will probably brew it sometime, but with all the other beers I "have" to make, who knows when I would be able to get around to it.
Feel free to leave comments about the recipe below. As I mentioned, I made assumptions on OG / ABV and boil volumes that are probably not right. If you have better information (or even have speculations on this stuff), I would love to hear it.

Recipe Notes Based on White House Honey Porter recipe converted to all-grain. The White House did not publish their OG / FG or
IBUs, so I am sort of guessing on those. I adjusted the boil time on the first
bittering addition as 17% AA doesn't convert well to 10 HBU. I think it should
be about the same IBU, and even at 45 minutes there was not much flavor. I
also went with a 90 minute total boil as that is my usual process.
