Colorado Strong Pale Ale

Brewed: 05/31/2020   Kegged: 06/12/2020

Early in May 2020 ... with all the Covid-19 Shelter-in-Place and Safer-at-Home directives, the small local businesses all struggled to stay in business.

Colorado craft breweries obviously were affected.

Left Hand's Brewing Foundation came up with a fund raising idea to try to help local breweries ... The Colorado Strong Fund.

Basically, they came up with a recipe and bought ingredients for breweries to brew it. Several of the local breweries I visit signed up.

Seeing this, I asked if I could get a homebrew recipe, and the answer was "yes". I made a donation to the fund, and they sent me the recipe.

The recipe they sent included locally produced malts, hops, and yeast.

Of course, I made a few minor modifications, but for the most part stayed as true to the recipe as I could.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to grab beers brewed by several of my local favorites to compare to my batch once it is done.

The homebrew recipe is available from the Left Hand Brewing Foundation Colorado Strong Fund.

You can make a small donation to the fund, and select that you want the recipe sent to you.

SheppyBrew's recipe basically follows the recipe with a minor modification of hops.

Making starter today. Brew day tomorrow. Picked up JoyRide's version in a crowler today. Locavore has released their version.

Brew day today. Got started a bit later than my usual. Everything went well. OG right at the planned 1.055.

Really active fermentation this morning with the temp strip reading around 65.

Put in blow off tube just in case.

The blow off tube does have kraussen. Not sure it is still needed, but I'll leave it in for a bit. Beer is bubbling away. Strip says 66.

Fermentation has slowed down quite a bit, but still lots of kraussen. I added half the dry hops.

Kegged along with the rest of the dry hops. 1.010 FG exactly on the plan. Hazy. Delicious. I think this will be my favorite of the Colorado Strong beers.

Poured a pint. Love the flavor. Not clear and needs more carbonation. Just needs a little more time. 😋

I got my Colorado Strong tee shirt today. Poured myself a small glass. Carbonation seems about right. Still hazy. Beautiful gold beer. Nice citrus hops.

Especially yummy tonight 😋 Had Green Moutain's version yesterday. I still like mine the best of all the versions I've tried 😋 Fruity hops with the right amount of backbone bitterness 😋 Man, I'm good.

Compared to Grist's version tonight. Still think mine is my favorite, but Grist is my 2nd favorite.

Flow out of tap has been fairly low. Popped open keg, took out hop sleeve, ran brush through dip tube, and put filter on tube. Flow improved, but foamy. Will let it settle some and try again. Yummy hop flavors. Probably have about 1 to 1.5 gallons left.

Really like the hop flavor of this beer.

Killed the keg might brew this again.
